Wind Power

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to produce electrical power, windmills for mechanical power, windpumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.

When used for generating electricity that feeds into the power grid, turbines are often grouped into wind farms.

In New Zealand, wind power generates a small but rapidly growing proportion of the country's electricity.

Meridian Energy has plans to build a wind farm in Hawke's Bay.
