Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. There are two main ways to do this. The first is using photovoltaics, or solar cells. The second is known as concentrated solar power.
We're very lucky in Hawke's Bay to have some of the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand, making Hawke's Bay ideal for solar installations.
Solar power in New Zealand currently only generates a tiny fraction of New Zealand’s electricity.

Solar Energy at the Environment Centre
Falcon Electrical Ltd and Environment Centre Hawke's Bay have teamed up to provide a working solar system and public education around renewable energy.
Falcon has installed 5 x 250W (a total of 1.5kW) panels on the roof of the Environment Centre. These went live on the 30th of March 2015.
The renewable energy experts from Falcon Electrical are going to be delivering some free public workshops on renewable energy for households (including solar) over the coming months. This is a great opportunity to find out more about solar or micro-hydro generation, and to check out a system up close and personal.
